It color-codes action icons to help the player keep track of various states like 'will use an action point without ending the turn', or 'won't spend an action at all if its condition is met', which is a huge improvement: one of the problems with LW1 is that it has a lot of modifier effects that change action point usage and whatnot, and then the player just has to keep track of this stuff in their head or constantly double-check the increasingly large pile of icons in the lower-left to keep it all straight, all while juggling multiple squads while being expected to have different soldiers of the same class potentially built very differently. ![]() So first of all, LWR puts a lot more emphasis on accessibility and comprehensibility than LW1 ever did.
